Movie theater screenings of digitally re-mastered movies directed by 2013 Honorary David Camera Holder Tadeusz Konwicki: 1914. The first day and night of the World War One. At a road to a small town in Galizia there is a small inn, Austeria, run by an old and wide Jew, Tag. He hides first fugitives who run away from a Kozak pogrom. Some of them are rich and emancipated local Jews. Some are Hasidic and focused too much on religion to understand what is going around them. Tag, a philosopher and free-thinker, senses the impending doom, but nevertheless helps everybody who has come in to seek shelter.

Movie theater screenings of digitally re-mastered movies directed by 2013 Honorary David Camera Holder Tadeusz Konwicki: Lithuania, 1910’s, the valley of the half-legendary river Issa. The film tells us the story of a young boy Tomaszek, a tragic romance between a priest and his housekeeper, maid Barbarka helplessly in love with her master, or crazy forester Baltazar, who slowly loses his mind. The dead come to the world of living, and daemons from Lithuanian myths appear alongside main characters.

Movie theater screenings of digitally re-mastered movies directed by 2013 Honorary David Camera Holder Tadeusz Konwicki: The story takes place in a dream-like setting. Andrzej, in his forties, undertakes a symbolic journey into the past to uncover the truth about his friend Max’s suicide. On his quest, he meets ghosts of people once important in his life, like his love from the war times, Musia, his parents, first wife Joasia and a childhood friend Szloma. The movie was awarded with the Jury Special Award at the Lubuskie Film Summertime in Lagów (1972), with the “Warsaw Mermaid” of the Polish Film Critics (1972) and the Jury Special Award for the best script at the San Remo Film Festival (1973).

Movie theater screenings of digitally re-mastered movies directed by 2013 Honorary David Camera Holder Tadeusz Konwicki: The story takes place in a one-horse town similar to the one described by Konwicki before in his novel, “Modern Dream-book”. Yet again, we visit a place where reality meets fantasy and dreams. One day, a mysterious man shows up. He goes by the name of Kowalski – Malinowski. He says different things about his life to various people. Sometimes he says he fought in the war, sometimes that he is in danger and needs to hide. His false legend disrupts the slow paced life of this secluded town.

Special screening with the participation of the author Joann Król and characters from the movie. This film is devoted to Polish Jews rescued from the Holocaust, old people who live in Poland and Israel. It is not just another story about the Survivors and the Righteous Among the Nations. It is a story about heroism that originated ordinary life, a story that takes us from the atrocities of the 20th century straight to contemporary Israel and Poland. The film is a part of the project “The Polish Righteous – Recalling Forgotten History” created by the Museum of the History of Polish Jews. Karolina Dzieciolowska – has worked in the Museum of the History of Polish Jews since May 2009. Participant of the program “Polish Righteous – Recalling Forgotten History”. At the MHPJ’s Educational Center, she runs educational programs for children and their families. She is a journalism graduate of the University of Warsaw. Joanna Krol – Polish studies graduate of the University of Warsaw. Author of TV documentaries “Nasz dom” (“Our House”: a collection of stories about Polish Jews in Israel), “Polska metryka Szlomo Jardena” (“Shlomo Jarden’s Polish certificate”) and “Balti". She runs the website about the Polish Righteous, www.sprawiedliwi.org.pl, created by the Museum of the History of Polish Jews.

This year witnesses numerous tragic anniversaries of the genocide of Jews in Poland. Our Festival mentions one of them – the 70th anniversary of the Revolt in Sobibor, an extermination camp. Sobibor, Poland - Ultra- secret extermination camp where about a quarter of a million Jews were murdered. 47 survived. 'Revolt in Sobibor' captures historically on film the audacious plan and subsequent, successful massive camp breakout, shattering the myth of the Jews being led as ‘lambs to the slaughter’.
